3DTi was formed by 3DMIRAGE (www.3dmirage.com), a New York based consulting company with the aim of providing specialized training in 3D to bridge the gap between the software skills taught at traditional schools and colleges to its practical application in the 3D industry.

3DMIRAGE, like most other production companies used to have a hard time finding skilled 3D talents who could not only create high-quality work but also have the experience of working for clients in a team environment with the ability to meet production deadlines consistently.

In 1998, 3DMIRAGE developed a unique production-based training program to train its new employees and interns who had knowledge of the software but lacked prior production experience. The program was very successful as it was able to get participants ready to undertake production work in a very short period of time.

Seeing the merits of this unique training approach, the regional manager of Kinetix/AutoDesk offered 3DMIRAGE its resource center at Curious Pictures, New York to help launch the unique training program to the general public.

Over the years, the program grew in demand and attracted participants from all over the US and even abroad. In 2005, 3DMIRAGE launched a separate company, 3D Training Institute (3DTi) dedicated toward delivering its popular 12-week 3D Project based course live-online, to enable participants to attend the program without having to travel to New York.

The program has generated numerous success stories over the last 10 years. Many of the successful 3DTi graduates end up working with 3DMIRAGE affiliates on large and small projects or are recruited by 3DTi's advisory board members who are constantly looking for skilled talent for their own production requirements.

3DTi is licensed by the New York State Education Department (BPSS) and issues diplomas to successful graduates of its programs.
